Gary Dusek is an Assistant Professor and program chair of Marketing at Chadron State College’s Business Academy. He holds a research doctorate in International Business from the Nova Southeastern University, H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business, and Entrepreneurship. Gary teaches marketing strategy, social media marketing, sales techniques, and entrepreneurship at the undergraduate and graduate levels. He serves as the Business Academy representative on the Graduate Council. He was a Visiting Professor of Marketing at the Eastern Washington University College of Business and Public Administration, where he lectured the marketing core, social media marketing, marketing strategy and integrated marketing communications.

Gary currently administers the Nebraska Business Development Center at Chadron State College and serves as the head business consultant. The NBDC is part of the national SBDC program, providing free face-to-face business consulting services and for fee trainings. Services include Writing business plans, accessing capital, marketing, regulatory compliance, technology development, and international trade. Gary’s client, White River Feeds of Chadron, Nebraska, was named the 2017 S.B.A. Small Business of the Year for the state of Nebraska.

While earning his D.B.A., Gary worked 4 years at One West Bank, as a business analyst for the loan servicing division. While earning his M.B.A. he worked as a financial analyst and loan pricing specialist for DHI Mortgage. Gary’s experience also encompasses 23 years of distinguished management of full-service dining facilities, earning him the 1993 award for general manager of the year for IHOP’s largest franchisee.

Gary’s research interests include international marketing, cross-cultural communications, employee service orientation, and using social media to survey hard to reach populations. His recent projects used data he collected from hotel employees in the United States and Russia to investigate cultural differences and aspects of service orientation and social media use by hotel staff. He is currently in the developmental stage of a research proposal to investigate consumer trust in social media marketing in former controlled economies and its effect on the hotel industry. Gary will use his network of more than 3,000 contacts in Europe to collect consumer data.
